About

Sebastian Liceaga is a jazz pianist, composer, and artist whose work is rooted in tradition while driven by personal voice and narrative depth. He began studying classical piano at the age of six, but after years of rigid training, he stepped away from classical music to reconnect with music on his own terms. Between the ages of twelve and fourteen, he focused heavily on ear training through contemporary music, learning songs by artists such as The Beatles, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Stevie Wonder—an experience that reshaped his musical intuition and identity.

At fourteen, Sebastian fully committed himself to jazz, a turning point that led him to study improvisation, harmony, and composition intensively. Since then, he has immersed himself in the jazz tradition while cultivating a deeply reflective and expressive approach to performance. His playing emphasizes storytelling, interaction, and emotional honesty, valuing nuance and intention, taking inspirations from pianists such as Bill Charlap, Bill Evans, Red Garland, Wynton Kelly, Oscar Peterson and McCoy Tyner.

Sebastian is an active performer and collaborator, regularly engaging in ensemble work and original projects. As a composer, he is drawn to themes of memory, hindsight, and human experience, often treating music as a form of personal documentation—something meant to outlive the moment in which it is created. He views himself not only as a pianist, but as an artist committed to leaving a meaningful and lasting imprint through sound.
